the story of sal's

After 25 years of cooking for friends and family, it was time to take the show on the road. My love for cooking comes from watching my Granny and Mother in the kitchen, creating dishes that fascinated a food-loving kid like me.

In 2011, my entrepreneurial spirit became too strong to ignore. I knew I needed to do something! Working as an Air/Ocean Supervisor in the international freight business was becoming unbearable, so I did what only 3% of American workers do: I took a giant leap of faith, quit my job, and pulled my 401K to open Sal’s Gumbo Shack. I put a pot of gumbo in the back of my Ford SUV and handed out samples to all the barber shops along Long Beach Blvd and Atlantic Ave. The phone has been ringing ever since.

Nine years later, Sal’s is coming to Bixby Knolls. We are excited to introduce down-home cooking, filled with love, family, and friends, to the Bixby community. From Louisiana gumbo to Southern fried chicken, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
